Floating magnets demonstrate the science of magnetic levitation, which is when magnets appear to float above each other. This happens because like poles of magnets repel each other, while unlike poles attract each other

A large and very strong magnet supplied with steel 'keeper'.

2,000 gauss at mid point of pole gap.     

Supervision is required when students are using this magnet because it is so strong that fingers can be nipped as the magnet pulls iron products towards its poles.

The 'keeper' across the poles requires care when applying and to remove it might require a pair of pliers to lever it from the poles.
