HL0066-01

Compound Bar, 2-Metal, Rivetted, 350x35mm w/Handle

A laminated bar of two metals fastened in a wooden handle are placed over a flame. The different thermal expansion rates cause the laminated bar to bend.

Demonstration of expansion of different metals.

Brass and Iron

HL0077-01

Conductivity Bars Set, Thermal Demo, Copper/Alum/Brass/Steel 200x50x6mm

Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Steel bars set in holder.

Use with Beaker, do not expose directly to flame.

Effective display of conductivity of different metals.

Instructions:

Fill beaker with hot water *60 deg and over. Dip the exposed end of the apparatus into the water and watch the colour change on each metal. Note: Each 1cm 'blackish' square should become more transparent/brighter depending on the conductivity of the metal.

HL0071-01

Conductivity Heat Demo, "Conductometer" on Handle

This apparatus demonstrates how five different metals (aluminum, brass, copper, nickel, and steel) conduct heat. The five rods are heated over a flame simultaneously, and students gauge what metal conducts heat best by observing how fast the wax at the tip of each rod melts.

The apparatus comes with all materials including a wax block and instructions.

HL0910-001

Conductivity Ring, 4 different metals

The IEC Conductivity Ring is the classic device to demonstrate the different heat conductivity of different metals. A strong cast ring holds a strip of brass, copper, iron and aluminium such that they meet at the central point. This central point is heated over a flame and a small piece of wax is placed in the depression provided at the tips of each strip.

The melting of the wax indicates the ability of each strip to conduct heat. Each strip is stamped with the initial of the metal used.

HL0079-01

Conductivity Tester, 10 Levels 150x40x15mm

Visual comparison of the conductivity of different solutions. The green LED is numbered from 1-10 and will light up as the probes are dipped into the solutions of salts or acids. From 1 (low) to 10 (high).

*Batteries not included.

Battery type: 23Ae 12V

Convection in Air Apparatus with Chimneys

STEM experiment.

Convection is a method of heat transfer in liquid and gases.

Learn about convection in real-world situations such as air-conditioning, building fires, and why the wind changes directions at the beach!

Air heated by a candle moves up one chimney while cooler air moves down another to replace the lost air. These currents can be seen against a dark backdrop. Includes: metal box with glass front; two glass chimneys. You need a smoke source.
